Sorry to put a dampner on your Bathurst weekend, but Ford is dead. According to high level V8 Supercars officials Australia's greatest sporting rivalry is to be killed off by the end of next year.
In a bombshell delivered on the week the last GT Falcon was built, Ford are set to axe V8 Supercars from their $60 million sponsorship war chest in a move that will end iconic Ford v Holden Mount Panorama racing war.
With the Falcon already dead and waiting to be buried, V8 officials have been told Ford will officially quit the sport at the end of the year and will not renew a multi-million dollar year deal with reigning Bathurst champions Ford Performance Racing (FPR).
We are entering the end times people, plan your pilgrimage for the final year.

Can FPR still race Mustangs that they build on their own?

V8s are dying already? The future is most definitely fucked.

Potentially yes (not sure if the Mustang is allowed in the competition), but that's $60 million of sponsorship money they'd have to find somewhere else.

Or take the engine out of the mustang and throw it in the Mondeo and call it something...hmm Falcon? That sounds nice! Oh well.

Supercars left me when Fox bought the SPEED network. I have been in a deep depression, ever since. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed watching the Aussies more than any other motorsport. Crazy bastards.
